At the end of the year 2005, the “Santhe” group was formed. “Santhe” means ixtle in the Nha Nhu tongue. We had the support of the non governmental organization “Desarrollo Rural de Tepeji del Río A.C. (www.dertrac.org)

During this time we have participated in a continuous process of organizational strenghtening that involves aspects of governability, manufacturing organization and comercialization, environment care, administrative sistems and community and gender development among others.

Who constitutes the organization
Our organization is integrated by three groups of women located in the district of Santiago de Anaya, Hidalgo, two of which can be found in the Gonzalez Ortega community and the third in the Mezquital community.

Each group is represented by an artisan and the three representatives form the directive counsil (president, treasure and secretary) of the organization. The charges in the counsil rotate every six months and the decisions are taken with at least two votes, an exception is made for matters related to changes in the constitution act or internal rules for which the unanimous voting is required. It was decided to have Dertrac as member of the organization with right of veto over any iniciative that threatens “Santhes´” viability. (www.dertrac.org)

The progress obtained encouraged us to seek for the fair trade certification, so we are taking the necessary actions with the civil association “Comercio Justo Mexico” (www.comerciojusto.com.mx) to obtain it, although we still have a long way to go we will eventually obtain it.
